Almahata Sitta Meteorite Thin Section

The Almahata Sitta meteorite and its story made the history books in 2008. Before colliding into the atmosphere over North Africa, a sky survey identified an object on a collision course with Earth; astronomers gave this asteroid a temporary name: 8TA9D69. After the bright meteor was seen by observers, meteorite hunters scoured the desert of northern Sudan and found numerous fragments. The recovered meteorite specimens are classified as an anomalous polymict Ureilite-Achondrite. This thin section of Almahata Sitta was taken in cross polarized light.

Sahara 99555 Meteorite Thin Section

Sahara 99555 Meteorite thin section in cross polarized light. This was purchased from Luc Labenne; he mentioned that this was his last thin section specimen of SAH 99555 and that it suffered a horizontal fracture near the bottom. Despite the crack, this angrite classified meteorite produces spectacular visuals.

Isheyevo Meteorite Thin Section

The Isheyevo Meteorite is categorized as a CH/CBb Bencubbin-like type meteorite. It contains FeNi grains, C, POP, rare BO chondrules, chondrule fragments, CAIs, and matrix lumps. The polarized image seen here shows a central elongated structure with polarized features, while the remaining areas show vast areas of black matrix material. It reminds one of the Milky Way winding its way through the night sky.

Google maps seems to show a spelling of Isheevo, or in Russian: Ишеево
